Babysitter skills and qualifications
As the UK’s most experienced babysitting service, Sitters only recruits childcarers who can demonstrate a long-term commitment to childcare and babysitting.
Potential sitters must have a minimum of two years’ recent professional childcare experience – and many have much more.
It’s just one of the reasons many parents go on to use the same Sitters' childcarers again and again.
After all, once you’ve found babysitters who know the ropes and can manage bedtimes like pros, the chances are you won’t let them get away…
Many approved sitters may have specialist childcare qualifications, but more importantly, they must be able to provide evidence of experience gained in a childcare setting or caring profession.
That means your babysitter might be an OFSTED registered childminder, qualified nanny, nursery nurse, primary school teacher, teaching assistant or even a paediatric nurse.
Whatever their background, you can be reassured that a member of the Sitters' team has done their homework to make sure they meet the right criteria.
The recruitment process
A Sitters babysitter needs to do much more than just look good on paper, however.
After all, the person we deliver to your door needs to be capable of managing every scenario that might arise, and an impressive CV isn’t going to cut the mustard if you can’t deal with sibling warfare, lost teddies or full-scale toddler tantrums.

The comprehensive recruitment process begins with a detailed application form, but also includes interviewing each candidate.
The team takes a personalised approach to recruitment, as Jayne explains: ‘At the end of the day, we always consider if we would be happy leaving our own children with the potential sitter.’

Babysitter background checks
Every babysitter who registers with Sitters must have exemplary references, which are cross-checked by the team. Potential sitters will also be asked to provide copies of all relevant paperwork, qualifications and identification documents.
Jayne explains: ‘We’re very thorough throughout the whole application process, to offer only the very best carers for our Sitters' parents and their families.’
And of course, Sitters doesn’t stop monitoring quality once a babysitter has been registered. The site proactively asks every parent for feedback about each carer, and all feedback is monitored to make sure every sitter continues to live up to our standards.
